There will be no class on Saturday 9/4, but regular practices on Wednesday & Friday as usual.

And as an official note, if you would like to come to the practice on Wednesdays & Fridays, be ready to go by 8:15.

8/4 Practice Schedule with Yamanaka & Saito Sensei

First of all, NO CLASSES on Friday & Saturday (8/6 & 8/7) for those who are NOT going to summer camp!

As most of you have already known that Yamanaka (8th Dan Hanshi) and Saito (8th Dan Kyoshi) Sensei are dropping by our dojo along with Sakamoto Sensei (6th Dan) from Choyokan for a special practice before heading off to the Summer Camp.

Please be at the dojo around 6:30 to help prepping and be ready to go at 7pm – if you’re one of those “right on time” guys, be earlier this time

Also, there will be another chance to learn from the Sensei’s on Thursday (8/5) down at the Rochester Y around 7pm with the Hokkyokusei group. If you can make it, please do! If you need a ride, just let one of us know then we’ll figure it out! Here’s the address:

Farewell party for Narumoto Sensei (Round 2)

This is for real guys, Narumoto Sensei is leaving to Japan this time for good! But he’ll drop by to say goodbye to us on 7/10! If you don’t know Narumoto Sensei, he was with us from 2006-2008, then moved to Pittsburg. He had upheld the MWKF 3 Dan+ champion title for 3 years in a row and other tournaments also! He got more 1st place cups than what he knows what to do with them :-}

Here’s your last chance to spar, say goodbye, or even meet him for the first time! We will have a regular Keiko from 3:30pm – 5:30, but PRETTY please arrive a bit early than usual to get things going sooner. So afterward we can get our biru-keiko (beer practice) and potluck afterward at Cochran Sensei’s house (just show up, we’ll take you there)!

All in all, Narumoto Sensei be dearly missed! So GET YOUR BUTT TO THE DOJO ON 7/10!!

2010 MWKF Summer Camp (Updated)

Sensei’s visiting this year: Yamanaka, Shigeki Sensei (8th Dan Hanshi) / Saito, Shigeki Sensei (8th Dan Kyoshi) / Suzuki, Aki (Miss! 6th Dan)
Room Adult (double): $125 / Single Room: $160
Room Youth: $90 / Triple: $65
Due date: July 25th ($20 late fee after this date)

It’s great fun and great learning experience. If you can make it please do! $125 include rooms and foods, you can’t get better than that besides learning from 2 super awesome 8th Dan Sensei’s!

AUSKF & MWKF Memberships

If you missed class on Saturday 2/20 – we had forms at the dojo to sign up for the annual All U.S. Kendo Federation & Midwest Kendo Federation memberships. The fees for both federations are $70 ($40 for AUSKF & $30 for MWKF). If you still want to join, bring cash or check (pay to Minnehaha) next Saturday – we will have forms over there.

Although, the memberships are optional. Joining the federations include insurance to cover catastrophic event, and it carries to any dojo that is a member of the AUSKF or MWKF. Also the federations helps pay the cost for bringing high ranking sensei’s from Japan to have camps and seminars. The membership benefits every Kenshi. So join up to support!

No practice from 12/23 -1/1

There will no classes starting from Wednesday (12/23) to Friday (1/1) , class resumes on 1/2 (Sat). Merry Christmas and happy new year to all!

Also, we will have a joint practice with Rochester dojo on 1/9. Practice time will remain the same, but get there a bit early. There will be a potluck after practice, so please bring something to share!
