  1. What is bogu?

Bogu = protective armor. Kendo Bogu consists of 4 parts: Men (helmet), Kote (gaunlets), Do (breastplate), Tare (hip protector).

  2. When will I able to wear bogu?

Depending on the instructor's discretion, it can be 3-6 months, sometimes longer. You will start out wearing the Tare (hip protector) and Do (breastplate), later adding Kote (gaunlets) then finally Men (helmet).

  3. I can't afford a bogu, what can I do?

We have a few sets of bogu that lent to you free of charge until you can afford to purchase your own bogu.

  4. What type of bogu should I purchase?

It is depends on your budget, there are beginner sets that usually cost around $250-$600. But if you want to be a RBSO (Rich Boy Shows Off), you can get a fully custom made "Mine" bogu set from Chiba Bogu that cost around $3000 or more :) Just a reminder that your fancy "Mine" bogu's value won't be $3,000 when you try to resell it when you found out wearing bogu is too difficult for you.

  5. What are mm and bu? What do they mean?

Click here for a reference of bogu thanks to the Marsten sensei's.
