AUSKF & MWKF Memberships

If you missed class on Saturday 2/20 – we had forms at the dojo to sign up for the annual All U.S. Kendo Federation & Midwest Kendo Federation memberships. The fees for both federations are $70 ($40 for AUSKF & $30 for MWKF). If you still want to join, bring cash or check (pay to Minnehaha) next Saturday – we will have forms over there.

Although, the memberships are optional. Joining the federations include insurance to cover catastrophic event, and it carries to any dojo that is a member of the AUSKF or MWKF. Also the federations helps pay the cost for bringing high ranking sensei’s from Japan to have camps and seminars. The membership benefits every Kenshi. So join up to support!

No class on Friday – 2/13

Please note that there will be no practice this Friday. But there will be regular practice on Saturday.

Also the annual Detroit tournament is this weekend, good luck to those who are participating and testing. GANBARE!

No practice from 12/23 -1/1

There will no classes starting from Wednesday (12/23) to Friday (1/1) , class resumes on 1/2 (Sat). Merry Christmas and happy new year to all!

Also, we will have a joint practice with Rochester dojo on 1/9. Practice time will remain the same, but get there a bit early. There will be a potluck after practice, so please bring something to share!

No Class on Saturday Nov 13 & 14

Due to almost everyone is heading to Chicago for the 21st Annual Midwest Kendo Tournament this coming weekend, there will not be classes on Friday the 13th, and Saturday the 14th. Class will resume on Nov 18th.

2009 MWKF Tournament Package

First of all, thank you to those who came to our dojo and practiced this past weekend – namely University of Wisconsin Madison, Okada-san from Chicago Dojo, and Rochester Dojo. Now that we are warmed up for the Taikai, here’s the applications for the tournament and for the promotional exam. Although the actual due date is Nov. 7, but please download and bring the applications into the dojo so we can turn in the team roster before or by October 31, Saturday! Here they are:

Special practice & 21st MWKF Tournament

On 10/10, Saturday – we will have a joint practice with other dojo’s visiting from other states. The practice time will be as usual, 3:30-5:30, but please be there a bit early.

On 10/11, Sunday – we will be practicing Shiai (competition) matches; meaning we will set up our dojo just like a Shiaijo (match arena) with a timer, and 3 referees to judge valid points. Beginners; even without Bogu are welcome to watch the practice matches so that you get a feel of how actual matches are like and learn to what are valid scores. The practice will go from 9:00 am-noon, please be ready to go by 9:15am.

We have not settled a time for Sunday yet, so please check this website later for more update information. Also:

The 21st Midwest Kendo Tournament will be at Chicago, IL on November 14th and 15th. The tournament will be on the 14th, and testing will be on the 15th. More information will be updated on this post. So check back later for information on forms, hotel etc…

The 8th Dan Sensei will be here on 8/5!!!

Please mark your calendar that Yamanaka sensei (8th Dan Hanshi) and Saito sensei (8th Dan Kyoshi) from Japan, along with Sakamoto sensei (6th Dan from Chicago dojo) will be here on August 5th! Please arrive around 5:45 and no later than 6:10! Be ready to go at 6:30! Thank you!

Just a quick note there won’t be class on Friday June 12th. Class resumes on Saturday.

In addition, due to spam bots keep trying to sign up for our email newsletter, I am taking that old plugin out.

Do not fear! I have installed a better email notification plugin for new posts! All you have to do is to register as an user to our blog, you will continue to receive emails when there are new posts. You would ask why don’t I just import the old email list to the new one? Well, reason is some of the email addresses are old and some people did not fill out their names also. New registrations will keep things straighten out. Also, if you prefer RSS then you’re good to go. No action is needed.
