Farewell party for Narumoto Sensei (Round 2)

This is for real guys, Narumoto Sensei is leaving to Japan this time for good! But he’ll drop by to say goodbye to us on 7/10! If you don’t know Narumoto Sensei, he was with us from 2006-2008, then moved to Pittsburg. He had upheld the MWKF 3 Dan+ champion title for 3 years in a row and other tournaments also! He got more 1st place cups than what he knows what to do with them :-}

Here’s your last chance to spar, say goodbye, or even meet him for the first time! We will have a regular Keiko from 3:30pm – 5:30, but PRETTY please arrive a bit early than usual to get things going sooner. So afterward we can get our biru-keiko (beer practice) and potluck afterward at Cochran Sensei’s house (just show up, we’ll take you there)!

All in all, Narumoto Sensei be dearly missed! So GET YOUR BUTT TO THE DOJO ON 7/10!!

2010 MWKF Summer Camp (Updated)

Date: 8/6 – 8/8
Sensei’s visiting this year: Yamanaka, Shigeki Sensei (8th Dan Hanshi) / Saito, Shigeki Sensei (8th Dan Kyoshi) / Suzuki, Aki (Miss! 6th Dan)
Room Adult (double): $125 / Single Room: $160
Room Youth: $90 / Triple: $65
Due date: July 25th ($20 late fee after this date)

It’s great fun and great learning experience. If you can make it please do! $125 include rooms and foods, you can’t get better than that besides learning from 2 super awesome 8th Dan Sensei’s!

No practice from 12/23 -1/1

There will no classes starting from Wednesday (12/23) to Friday (1/1) , class resumes on 1/2 (Sat). Merry Christmas and happy new year to all!

Also, we will have a joint practice with Rochester dojo on 1/9. Practice time will remain the same, but get there a bit early. There will be a potluck after practice, so please bring something to share!

Special practice & 21st MWKF Tournament

On 10/10, Saturday – we will have a joint practice with other dojo’s visiting from other states. The practice time will be as usual, 3:30-5:30, but please be there a bit early.

On 10/11, Sunday – we will be practicing Shiai (competition) matches; meaning we will set up our dojo just like a Shiaijo (match arena) with a timer, and 3 referees to judge valid points. Beginners; even without Bogu are welcome to watch the practice matches so that you get a feel of how actual matches are like and learn to what are valid scores. The practice will go from 9:00 am-noon, please be ready to go by 9:15am.

We have not settled a time for Sunday yet, so please check this website later for more update information. Also:

The 21st Midwest Kendo Tournament will be at Chicago, IL on November 14th and 15th. The tournament will be on the 14th, and testing will be on the 15th. More information will be updated on this post. So check back later for information on forms, hotel etc…

The 8th Dan Sensei will be here on 8/5!!!

Please mark your calendar that Yamanaka sensei (8th Dan Hanshi) and Saito sensei (8th Dan Kyoshi) from Japan, along with Sakamoto sensei (6th Dan from Chicago dojo) will be here on August 5th! Please arrive around 5:45 and no later than 6:10! Be ready to go at 6:30! Thank you!

2009 MWKF Summer Camp

Although the 2009 MWKF Summer Camp is not officially posted on the MWKF website just yet. It is most likely to be held at the Michigan State University on August 7-9. Yamanaka (8th Dan Hanshi) and Saito sensei’s (8th Dan Kyoshi) are back once again this year, in addition that there might a be a 6th Dan female sensei from Japan. So mark your calendar and make plans if you can make it. I will keep us posted when the registration forms and more details are released.

Cleveland 2009 Taikai

Cleveland 2009 Tournament is coming up, and I apologize for not keeping the latest news around the federation current. The tournament will be held on April 17-19 and visit the Cleveland Kendo Association website for forms and detail information.

11th Annual Detroit Tournament

First of all, I have noticed the website had been slowing down to a halt sometimes. I won’t bore you with the technical details, but I am working on it to make it runs fast again. I had trouble updating the site myself, but I apologize for the technical difficulties. So for a quickie update and announcement but I’m sure most of you know this by now:

Promotional Information
The deadline for turning in the application is Febuary 6th. You can also find the promotional application on the MWKF website. Thank your lucky star that Tyler Zimmerman sempai is now our MWKF VP of promotion, so you can hand him the application directly.

I apologize in the last post I mentioned there will be new year party on the 20th, actually the party is on 1/3/09. Although, the dojo will still be closed after the 20th until January 3rd.

20th MWKF Taikai Aftermath

First of all, thank you to all volunteers and participants who made the 20th MWKF Tournament possible. Without you, it would not be possible.

Secondly, we would like to congratulate all the winners of the tournament, and Cochran sensei won 2nd place in Seniors! Results will be posted later this week on this website and the MWKF website. So stay tuned!

Finally, we would like to congratulate the following Minnehaha members who have successfully passed their exams on Sunday:

Actually, one more announcement. University of Wisconsin will be hosting a team practice on November 15 & 16. More detail will soon follow.
